Sailing World NOOD Regatta

Held at Larchmont YC

September 6-7, 2008
Larchmont, NY

90 boats in 8 classes entered the 10th annual Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regatta, September 6 and 7 at Larchmont Yacht Club. Despite the impending arrival of Tropical Storm Hanna, 62 boats competed Saturday in south southeast winds ranging from 5 to 10 knots.

New to the lineup this year was a one-day Sportboat exhibition class that included Viper 640s, Laser SB3s, RS K6s, and an Open 5.70, all sailing under Portsmouth Handicap. Some classes were able to complete three races and be back at on their moorings before the rain arrived.

Hanna cleared out by Sunday morning and left sunny skies with a shifty northwester in its place. With a cut-off time of 2:30 PM, both circles were able to complete 3 more races for each class.

Larchmont Yacht Club's Shields Class co-skippers, Com Crocker and Kurt Weisenfluh, took top honors aboard Rascal and were named the overall winners of the NOOD, capturing the invitation to the Caribbean NOOD Championship in November.
