Larchmont YC Finishes Second at

Vanguard 15 Team Race Midwinters

Team Larchmont YC finished second in a competitive 23-team field at the 2010 Vanguard 15 Team Race Midwinters held at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron in Sarasota, Florida.  The crack squad consisted of members John and Molly Baxter and Danny Pletsch with Alexis Rubin, with former LYC sailing instructor Nick Ewenson and Meredith Nordhem also joining the team.  Junior members Nik Holtan and Lily Beck were also in attendance sailing on the eighth placed “Big Whoop” team.

Conditions for the event were uncharacteristically cold and windy, which made the 28-race schedule extremely taxing for the teams.  For many it felt simply like frostbiting as wool hats and dry suits ruled the weekend.  Team Larchmont YC sailed a solid event to win 22 of the 28 races but could not touch the nearly flawless 27-1 record of the regatta-winning “Bristol Pistols” that included current team race world champions Colin Merrick and Amanda Callahan.  Results.
