Vanguard 15 Fleet Concludes
Successful Season
October 23, 2009
Larchmont, NY
LYC’s Vanguard 15 fleet is the largest Vanguard 15 fleet in the country and the largest one design fleet at LYC. The 2009 season saw 75 skippers and 120 crews on the starting line for 83 races over 18 fleet racing Sundays, without losing a single day due to lack of breeze. LYC’s three Vanguard 15 regattas saw record attendance as well. The fleet, which is known for its high levels of competition and camaraderie, celebrated the end of the season at its annual party. Jay Rhame, with crews Katie Murphy and Blake Deboer, edged out summer sailing members Matt Barry and Pete Deming to win the season championship.

In B fleet, summer sailing member Daniel Belcher with crew Lisa Lobalzo won the title, and also took home the trophy for the biggest improvement in scores between the 2008 and 2009 seasons. LYC junior Casey Klingler, sailing with her mother Merrill Ulmer, placed second for the season in the B division and won the summer series, while the husband-wife team of David and Hollie Renton finished third. Adam Glass won the trophy for biggest improvement between the spring and summer series. Buddy Wolf, a founding member of the fleet 13 years ago and long-time Vanguard 15 race committee member, won the award for Fleet Dedication, while summer sailing member Langdon Mitchell was voted by his peers the winner of the fleet sportsmanship award.
