Shields

Larchmont Yacht Club is the home of Shields Fleet One.  The Fleet is the largest keel boat class at Larchmont.  Cornelius Shields was a member of Larchmont when he commisioned Sparkman & Stephens to design the new One Design class.  The boat has lines that Olin Stephens himself describes as "almost too sweet".
Shields
Shields race in the Yacht Racing Associations weekly racing which starts off Mamaroneck equidistant betwee LYC and American Yacht Club.   If you are interested in participating in Shields, visit the Shields Fleet website.

Vanguard 15s

Larchmont Yacht Club is home to one of the premier Vanguard 15 fleets in the country. The boat's light weight and simple design is perfect for parent/child combos and intermediate racers, yet is still challenging for the fleet's College All-Americans.

Larchmont's fleet roster has over thirty boats fleet racing on Sunday afternoons and pick-up team racing on Thursday nights. In addition to its sailors being known for their welcoming atmosphere and camaraderie, Vanguards have been instrumental in introducing many new members to the club via three large regattas each season. If you are interested in Vanguard 15s, please visit the fleet's website or feel free to contact fleet captain Peter Beardsley at

wpbeardsley01[AT]alumni.amherst.edu.

Etchells

The Etchells is a big, fast, stable and exciting one design that can be sailed competitively by 3 or 4 sailors. Fleets are active throughout the world drawing many of sailing's best competitors. Etchells Fleet One was formed in 1969 and today fleet members sail out of Larchmont Yacht Club and American Yacht Club. We race a focused schedule of local races on Saturdays from Memorial Day until Columbus Day.

Ideal 18s

The Ideal 18 is a fun daysailer designed by Bruce Kirby. The boat was commissioned with Simplicity, Comfort, and Performance in mind.  Whether you Team Race, Fleet Race or just like to cruise the Ideal 18 is everything you've ever wanted in a small keelboat. And a whole lot more.   It's just the right size. Plenty of room for friends, yet easy to rig and sail by yourself! The main is easy to set and the roller-furling jib is self-tacking. The boat is also equiped with a powerful 245 sq. foot spinnaker for Fleet Racing.

The Ideal 18 program at LYC includes: adult learn to sail programs, ladies sailing, sailing clinics, parent-child programs, Team Racing programs and much more.

For more information contact the
LYC Sailing office.

IODs (International One Designs)

The International One-Design racing yacht was commissioned in 1936 for the Larchmont Yacht Club racing fleet. In fact, the first hull is still highly competitive and sails from LYC. Since the Spring of 1937, IODthe IOD has been continuously raced in the waters off Larchmont by a succession of Long Island Sound's legendary and most competitive sailors, including Cornelius Shields, Arthur Knapp and 'Bus' Mosbacher. The IOD is a truly international class with fleets in Norway, Sweden, Bermuda, Maine, Nantucket, San Francisco, Fisher's Island and Marblehead, MA.

Skippers and crews from the Long Island Sound fleet regularly compete in those far-flung locations as well regular YRA racing. For more information, please go to the IOD of LIS website.
